Donate or Sell Your Old Electronics

Electronics are one of the fastest growing portions of America’s trash.   Did you know most computer monitors and televisions contain about five pounds of lead?  Computers also contain other elements that, if improperly disposed of, can be environmental hazards.  Donating or selling your old electronics is not only smart, but also good for the environment.

Donate your old computer to a school. Many schools are in need of computers and will be able to make good use of your old machine. Even if the computer isn’t working, schools can often get the machine refurbished by in-house technicians. Or you could recycle it at one of the many drop off locations around Rochester.  See attached link for locations and drop off hours.

No matter how old, video games and video game equipment can be sold to many electronics dealers. Another option is to donate old video games to youth charities.

Before throwing away an old cell phone, call your local county or city services to see if they accept donations, or if they recycle cell phones.   Another option is to donate your cell phone to local charities; the charity will receive money for each donation.  Below are just a few of links to local charities accepting cell phone donations.
